  • Cascla (K=|K'=) or (<<=|<<'=): Piasetski vs K. Spraggett, Zonal, Windsor 1989

    Cascla (K=|K'=) or (<<=|<<'=): Black castles first on the Kingside, White also castles Kingside, the game is drawn.

    GM Kevin Spraggett won the 1989 Zonal in Windsor, with IMs Leon Piasetski and Bryon Nickoloff finishing tied for second. Leon and Bryon would contest a playoff match in Scarborough the next year, with Leon winning 2.5 to 1.5, to qualify for the 1990 Interzonal. In this particular game, GM Spraggett essays an offbeat line in the King's Indian Defence, with the eventual outcome a hard-fought draw.

    Note that chessgames.com has the result of this game wrong. They have Spraggett winning; not true.
