  • email addresses - syntax

I have a question, so where else would I go, other than chess talk!!!

I am entering a list of email addresses for new members than played in the Victoria Open.
Thanks to Paul Leblanc for the list. Some organizers don't bother collecting email addresses. :(

My question is this: are email addresses case sensitive?

    for example: JohnSmith at gmail.com

Do I need to capital the J and S, or can I enter all as small caps?

Is it same for all? Maybe gmail hotmail live, whatever have different rules?

In general, the domain name part of the email address (the part after the @ sign) is NOT case sensitive (Gmail.COM = gmail.com)
but the actual email address *may* be.

It is uncommon for email systems to enforce case sensitivity in the address part...
but it is not easy to find out except by trying.

In general, you can treat the JohnSmith part as case insensitive.
