      Hi Hugh,

Unfortunately, this year there will be no live games. :(

If budget allows in the future, live games will definitely be a possibility. :)

Games will definitely will be available! We planning to scan the games. The only thing is we don't have a website to place scanned games.

We also be using carbon scoresheets for TOP section, so games will be available for CANBASE. :o

        Re: Canadian Junior 2017 - Aug 9 - 13, 2017

        Updates of the tournament :

        1. For the comfort of the players, we have 4 medium-big portable air conditioners. We care and hope the tournament will be as comfortable as possible. We listen to feedbacks from players and parents.

        2. For the Open section, there are 4 players who have paid up. For those who has hasn't paid yet, please arrive earlier ( Aug 9 ) to make the payment for us to start the tournament on time so that the games will not last till mid night for round 1. It should not take too long either as there are only 35 players not paid yet. Reserve section ( U-1600 )starts on Aug 10 so there won't be too big a crowd trying to pay the entry fee at the same time. Many more ( more than 10 ) paid in the reserve sections. Thanks to those who have pre paid before the tournament begins.

        3. I strongly believe that this Open section is one of the strongest in Canadian Junior history even though it is not on an invitational to top 10 players of Canada. This format allows other top players getting a chance to win and represent Canada as official representatives at the World Junior Chess Championship. The top 10 players in the list of pre-registered are especially strong and there will be a big fight over the 9 rounds. The other players are also in with a fight and they also have a chance to play against these stronger players ( top 10 ) and who knows we may see many upset wins as the tournament progress. This is unlike CYCC ( by age group ) and all players irrespective of age ( must be under 20 ) are allowed to play ( Open ) and ( Reserve ) sections. If we win the bid for next year, we will make it even more better and interesting. This is something we ( Mikhail and myself ) want to give back to the chess community.

Chess is growing in Canada (especially juniors ) and we believe the juniors deserve all the support for them to excel and play in World tournaments ( with financial support ).

We really hope the winners this year can make an impact at the WJCC in Italy later this year. It has been awhile since the last time a Canadian played at WJCC.

I like the larger group of junior masters as opposed to the very small sections by age groups. It's how it was done in the old days. I've revised this list and it looks like the Canadian Junior has attracted as many top Ontario juniors, 22, as the Canadian Youth Chess Championships. What a great event! It's too bad there isn't a system of sponsorship for juniors from outside the province.

            Hi Mikhail,

If someone can manually enter the games, you do not need a separate
website to display the games - you can upload the PGNs directly onto
'Chess-Results', by entering the games into Swiss Manager via a database
compilation program like ChessBase 13, which I think you/Gary already have:

            http://www.chess-results.com/FAQ.aspx?lan=1&id=5261

Basic instructions there are from the author of Swiss Manager himself:)

If you like, I can further detail the process for you step by step, so the games
are entered round by round, for chess enthusiasts everywhere to view. This is
fascinating as they can replay each battle in full colour virtually in real time!

Once you've uploaded the games, the tab item will appear as a link on
your 'Chess-Results' page, above the 'Excel and Print' tab line as:
“There are XX games available for download”

The games will actually be visible and be able to be played through online!

All success to you, Gary, Danny, and your team at this Canadian Junior 2017!

            Francis

              Hi Francis,

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions. It is much appreciated.:D

Yesterday IA Danny Goldenberg and myself discussed same option to input games into Swiss Manager and we decided to go ahead with this option.

If we have any difficulties with process, we will most definitely ask for your help. :)

We are going to start inputing games today whenever we get free time, so consider your it done. ;)

              Thank you!

              Cheers.

Few games can be downloaded as PGN or viewed now on chess-results.com :D

For now we will be entering games from top 5 boars, since we have limited time.

We will later enter remaining games into chess-results.

Here is a link to first 5 games from round 1: http://www.chess-results.com/partieS...nr=296304&rd=1

                Enjoy! ;)

Due to the request not to input the games into chess results, we have stop inputting the games. Round 1 and 2 available.

We will send all the games to Hugh Brodie for Canbase.

                  Thanks

If you don't mind asking, who's "request"?

I bet its a player currently in the tourney not wanting to advertise their games to the competition.

Richard Chen 6 had to be paired down to William Li 5 as he has played everybody else! He has had the toughest pairings but against players 2 thru 8 he has scored an impressive +4=2-1. William Li has drawn with 3 higher rates opponents so won't be an easy pairing. Zachery Dukic (only 1952 fide) has faced more lower-rated opponents but now plays the top-rated (and the only player over 2200 fide). It has been very competitive, everyone has lost a game. FM Terry Song has 4 draws but Daniel Xu wins the Grandmaster award with 6! Hairan Liang had defeated 2 masters.

And finally, at about 8:30pm, the winner of the Canadian Junior was determined when Richard Chen beat Aahill Noorali. He will be the official representative for the boys section at the WJCC. Minutes later, the winner for the girl was decided when Cynthia Cui beat Mysha Gillani in an end game (very close). Cynthia (from New Brunswick) will be the official representative for the girl section in Italy. Once they have confirmed on going to Italy, we will issue cheques of $ 1,500 to each winner to cover each player's air ticket.

Later on, there was a playoff to determine the 2nd place in the the boys section. Nicholas and Zehn drew their first game with a 15 minutes+10 seconds increment time control. Nicholas won the next game with a 3 minutes+2 seconds time control. Then Nicholas proceeded to have a 2 game playoff match with Eugene, both games with a 15+10 time control. The 1st game was drawn, and the 2nd game was won by Eugene.

After 5 days starting from Wednesday, the tournament finally ended and it's back to routine again.

I would like to thank IA Danny Goldenberg for an especially well directed tournament and Chief organizer Mikhail Egorov for assisting him. Thanks to volunteers, Mississauga Chess club directors, Undriadi B, Paul R and Bob G for helping out and John Upper and Toto Surya for helping on the photography. I am sure John has lots of well taken photos for his upcoming write up.

Many thanks to all the players who joined the tournament and the parents to bring them. Thanks to a group of players from China (6 players) who played in the reserve section. Without you all, this tournament will not be a success.

We intend to host this tournament and bring this tournament to another level (more intense, exciting and interesting).

Survey forms were distributed before the end of the tournament and responses were positive but again we learnt a lot from this tournament and have identified areas to improve on it.

Before the end of the tournament (4PM or 5PM), GM Razvan Preotu and his dad Rene Preotu came to our tournament to congratulate our success in this tournament. He gave some pointers to us.

We hope to make our next tournament even better than this one from all the feedback that you guys input.

                              Feedback welcome to ghua71ATyahooDOT.ca

                              Thanks again to ALL

                              Cheers to Chess in Canada!
