we're trying to develop a tournament presence in Markham and will be working on both kids' and open events in the next year.
The first will be on February 25th, below are the details:
1st MARKHAM-CCYC“Happy Life” Grand Prix Kids’ Chess Tournament
Saturday, February 25th
Location: The Markham Pan-Am Athletic Centre, 16 Main St, Unionville
Age Groups: Under 8, 10, 12, 14 and open group (based on 6 players, otherwise open group merges)
Registration: Pre-registration and online payment highly encouraged to speed up registration, should be done online by February 22th. For those who pre-registered, please check-in by 11:15AM on Feb,25th. and pay if you haven’t already done so.

Title Sponsor: Happy Life
On-site registration/payment: starts at 10:15AM ends at 11:15AM. Anyone registering or paying after that will not be paired for first round, in order to start on time.
Tournament begins at: 12PM 5-round Swiss, clocks used if necessary Ends around 5:30PM
Half-point byes are available for rounds 1-4, please indicate any desired byes on the registration form.
A 15 minute snack break will be held after the 3rd round
All games will be CMA rated
Prizes: each tournament 1st place gets a trophy plus a $100 gift-card, 2nd gets a silver medal+50$ gift-card, 3rd gets bronze+$10 gift-card. 2nd and 3rd prizes can be split.
In the case of a tie for 1st place, play-offs will be used to determine the winner
Players tied for 2nd and 3rd will all get medals
3 points and above will get a certificate
Prizes/Certificates will be awarded by the mayor of Markham!
Registration: Email of parent; Cell number in case of emergencies; Full name of player
Birth date ; Existing CMA rating and a box to check for unrated players
School name of the player ; existing CCYC student or not;
Byes requested for round:
Entry Fees: $20 for CCYC students if pre-registered and paid online,
$25 for anyone else who pre-registered and paid on-line.
$30 for those who pre-registered and paid on-site,
$40 for on-site registrations.
