Good to see that the first two sections are FIDE rated. Kitchener tournaments have been well organized and great rooms for chess playing. For those kids who doesn't have any activities going into March break, this is a good tournament so don't miss this one. All sections have prize money as well. If you are good and lucky, maybe you will win something too. Brian Clarke is a great TD too.

I don't see any reason not to go to this tournament unless you are already pre-occupied on that weekend. For $ 40 entry fee for juniors and seniors and $ 50 for the rest, it certainly is worthwhile to play

A reminder to all organizers that FIDE insists that all tournaments to be FIDE rated are registered in advance (at least 1 week).
Brian, please send me the info.

So there's no open section...you're wrong...try to understand what an "open section" is...

                LOL

Maybe you can use your imagination and think about Open section as an open bucket - there is a bottom (~2000) and no cover (ok, Magnus is the top limit)- it's Open. All other section are sealed buckets LOL

"Open section" means "Open to all". It's not the case in your tournament.
GM Larry Evans explained that many years ago in his chess column. Simple enough to understand.

Suggestion: just rename sections : Advanced, Intermediate, Novice, Beginners, etc.

Or you could do poor good better best sections. If you really want to nitpick.

My guess was that, Brian is referring to the play up section from Under 1600 to Under 2000 ONLY. We have learned our lessons and we are starting to use PREMIER, PRO, ELITE and CLOSED Sections (to limit players who meets the minimum rating requirement to play in these Sections) instead of using the "OPEN" Section.

What I understood about an OPEN Section is defined from the link below from the Continental Chess Association of USA:

You can call your tournament sections whatever you want.
It's Open section, not an open section ;)

This is a true "OPEN" Chess Tournament: http://www.miltonchess.ca/images/cfc/nfo2017.pdf. You swim at your own RISK without a life-saver in an OPEN ocean with the SHARKS, with the utmost danger of eaten up ALIVE and the hope to survive!

I agree. Open tournament but without an open section.

American way to play in the Open section "Open: Open to players who are/were 1800/up or pay $100 extra."
Canadian way - get strong enough to play in it LOL
