I will not be able to post the results of Round 3 or the pairings for Round 4 of the Open and U2000 Sections because they have not been completed yet. We had to adjourn the round with some games not finished. Unknown to the tournament team, our venue (Kitchener City Hall) had scheduled a lighting test to occur at 9:30 p.m. That meant that all the rooms would be plunged into darkness for the rest of the night. We were informed of this right around 9:00 p.m. and given very little time to leave.

Since we could not complete all games, we adjourned them using the established procedure of the person to move writing down and sealing his/her move. I have all the sealed moves. We will resume tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. to complete these games. Note that all other players, i.e. those that did complete Round 3, do not need to arrive until just before the scheduled start of Round 4 at 10:00 a.m. DST. Remember to set your clocks ahead 1 hour tonight.

This is the first time I have had to adjourn games. Hopefully it will be the last.

Well at least it is for a good cause, Earth Day testing. Testing for something that is basically completely useless.
    Well hopefully no cheating occurs...
University and Chess, a difficult mix.

Question: If a game is adjourned, are players allowed to then computer analyse the position from home? I assume so, correct?

I believe players can analyse by any method, including other people. However, if White has sealed, Black doesn't know the exact position. Likewise White doesn't know what Black's reply will be.

Historically players could stay up all night and be a wreck or have their second be up all night with the endgame books and present their conclusions in the morning. Some would conclude it's not worth the effort to continue and resign or offer a draw.
