The manual is from 1997 - maybe time for a little update.

I was waiting for someone to remark that the website was also from 1997... but I digress a little.

I browsed through the manual a bit - not sure the equipment offers are still valid (and phone numbers and addresses should be updated!)
and one thing that jumped out at me: the phrase "How Pawns Move and Take" - I think "Capture" should be consistently used.

Overall, the teaching manual represents a good plan (most of it is not very susceptible to the ravages of time so can remain as is.)

I don't know Tom nor have we met, but good luck to all - this is a good initiative.

I am impressed with the home page http://societyofchessaficionados.world/ which precisely describes Neil's plans for the future of chess, with exceptional clarity.

Is there a link error? I just see lots of white space.

Looking just now, I see somewhat more than just white space. Perhaps the society's masterplan is still in the embryonic stage?

I would say these lessons are excellent for beginners and do not need to be updated. The equipment section where it is recommended that one buy an analog clock should be changed to a digital clock - perhaps a DGT? Also I am sure the prices have changed.
That is a minor point. The manual itself looks excellent.

I don't have the rights to the manual nor do I have access to the computer file itself. If it's ever updated it won't be by me.

Really! As the author? In any event, you should probably rein in your friend with a major problem.......

The CFC has the copyright and the manual is available on their website (Resources -> Downloadable Resources -> School Stuff) here http://www.chess.ca/sites/default/fi...ing-manual.pdf

Thanks Kevs, more like a fetus rather than an embryo tho.

Store product testing and dev. going on right now for both physical and digital purchases ... including offering tournament registrations complete with paypal and credit card payments. Any club or even a stand alone tourney will be able able to use our service for free. And that's just a sniff of free services available with SoCA.

Next test up will be the forum which is simply called ... The Square

And then we'll offer up an open call for chess Authors.

And then finally skin the whole deal!

Given this, the PDF should not have been directly copied to the SoCA website, but instead should have been a link to the CFC location.

I was wondering about that, too. I'm sure that SoCA got the permission of the CFC to use their copyrighted material. ;)

One difference being that the Albert page http://www.albertachess.org/Instruction.html describes the link as CFC Teaching Manual.
