Guelph Summer Pro-Am June 17-18

We are trying something different this time to get the first round started at 10am. Only those who have prepaid will receive a swiss pairing in the first round, and pairings will be posted Friday night. We will do our best to accommodate those who have not yet paid, including those who register on Saturday morning.

3 CFC + FIDE Rated Sections: Pro, U2000, U1700
2 CFC Rated Sections: U1300, U1000

Round one pairings published Friday night, June 16.

Players may play up one section if their current rating is within 100 points of rating floor. Extra cost is $20, proceeds to the Olympic Fund.

Round Times: Saturday 10:00am, 2:00pm, 6:30pm, Sunday 10:00am, 2:30pm
Time Control: All rounds G/90 + 30 sec. Forfeit time is 30 minutes after the start of each round, except round one, which will have a 60 minute forfeit time. Entry Fees: Payments received on or before May 26, 2017:
Pro Section $60, others $40.
After May 26, 2017: Pro Section is $70, others $50.
On Site Late Fee: $10.00
Single Half Point Byes: in rounds 1-4 may be requested in advance
Prizes: $60 per Pro player returned as prizes. Trophies awarded in other sections
Registration: Prepayment required before any pairing. Prepaid players will be paired on Friday night for round one. White’s clocks will start a 10am Saturday.

Good to see those changes from the organizer point of view. During the arbiters' seminar we discussed with Hal pros and cons of advanced pairings.

This year Aurora Summer Open will have the same thing - that players will need to pay in advance to be paired for round 1.
Our experience showed that there is a very small number of players who show up the last minute without a notice.
There was only one "paid" player who did not show up without a notice.
Paypal was convenient way receive and even make refund for several cancellations. Other options of payment will be still available - cash at the club or sending cheques.

Eliminating the registration booth shall give a lot of time to do other things on a tournament day, like oiling all squeaky doors :)

I guess if you do not pre-pay. you could always charge a$25 late fee. that help early entries.

Pre-pay is a good ideal, however, if for some reason, I have to cancel it at last minute, do I get full refund? or is it a dead line for refund?

Hal will answer for his tournament. For Aurora open we wrote a full refund if cancelled before pairings are posted (Friday evening); no refund after. (we should have a final flyer soon :)

Before emails most players paid by cheque and late entry lines were less.
once email came few sent money and line ups to pay increased. Emails also did not confirm payment.

This year at Niagara Falls Open we offered a $10 discount if you sent a cheque early. It worked for us. We had to collect very little cash at the site and we actually started on time.
We will be using that model next year.

We have over 20 players pre-registered at this point and I will post a pre-reg list in a day or two. As for late cancelations, as long as I know before the pairings are posted on Friday night a refund is no problem. If you cancel Saturday morning you might be able to convince me to offer a credit toward the 2017 Fall Pro-Am.

If you have pre-paid you will be paired and White's clock will start at 10am Saturday.
