Toronto Open Backgammon Tournament looking good with strong early entries pouring in. With 20-plus committed to play, it looks like we will reach the full compliment for a 32 player knock-out event. There are no draws in backgammon therefore tournaments are always formatted in the knock-out system.
With a $2800 prize pool, I would expect players from Montreal and Ottawa to attend. However, the few players I have contacted in those cities - not a single response. Not even a "Sorry, I can't make it on May 7."
Perhaps people no longer read their emails.
Does anyone on ChessTalk know of backgammon players in Montreal who might be interested? If Montreal were to stage a similar tournament, I can virtually guarantee some 4 - 6 players from Toronto would come.
