Pan-Am Youth Chess Championship is starting in two weeks time.

Canada will be sending the largest delegation for the first time to this tournament.

About 20 players are going and we stand a very good chance of winning some of the sections and the title which comes with it.

Stay tuned for the results to be updated from day to day.

Anabelle Kovatcheva is the Head of Delegation of this Team Canada.

Wish them good luck and may lucky star shines on our players.

The tournament is starting tomorrow and I believe all the participants will be flying there today.

We have a very strong team this time around ( record entries from Canada at Pan-Am youth chess championship )

IM Michael Song, FM Olivier Kenta Chiku Ratte and FM Rodrigue-Lemieux Shawn and WIM Ouellet Maili-Jade WFM Cindy Qiao and CM Anthony Atanasov lead the team of 19 players.

The other players are very good too

All the best to all of them

We are doing pretty well with some sections at the top of the table.

At yesterday's conclusion of Pan-Am youth, Team Canada had her best ever performance at this international tournament, and only 19 players represented Canada!

Congratulations for one of the greatest performances ever in the Pan-Am by Canada and many thanks to our HOD Anabelle Kovatcheva for a great job - Well done.

She will also be the HOD for the upcoming WCCC in Brazil.

Below are some words from Annabelle,

"Today Canada won third overall place at PAN AM (country prize). US was first, but they had over 70 players vs 19 for Canada. The country prize was calculated based on points earned for each individual placement from 1-10 in each age group.

In addition to the 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze in the regular tournament, we also won 2 bronze medals in the Pan American Blitz tournament (U10 and U18G).

It was a tough tournament with 455 players, and while the team could have done a bit better overall, we have to acknowledge that this is probably the best overall placement we have achieved as a team at this level."

The next International tournament will be NAYCC ( July 12-16 ) headed by HOD Victoria Jung Doknjas. More information on this tournament coming up soon. Stay tuned!

I have played Emma He at the Mississauga Chess Club and I continue to be very impressed with her skill and her maturity.

Michael has annotated his round 7 game for the CFC Newsletter; you can play through his notes here:

                              http://chess.ca/newsfeed/node/979

Very good notes, and even more reason to anticipate his and Razvan's forthcoming Gambit Chess book "The Chess Attacker's Handbook".
