    Memorial Celebration for Zoltan Sarosy

    August 29, 2017

The Celebration of Life of Zoltan Sarosy took place at the Chartwell Grenadier Residence, near High Park, on Saturday, August 26.

Zoltan was a resident there for seventeen years.

It was attended by family, friends and residents. The family wanted it to be low-key, so the press was not invited.

Last year, for his birthday, there were 110 roses; this time there were white and purple orchids.

His two grandsons gave their childhood memories of him. Lina Bertuola was the staff member closest to Zoltan and she spoke as well about their friendship and about the help she gave him on computers.

Dwight Mountney, General Manager, said last year that when Zoltan first came there, he requested boiled potatoes, then and ever after, and perhaps they were the secret of his long, productive life.

Andrew Pressburger, his chess-friend of many years, spoke about the paper chessboards he bought from Zoltan’s shop. He kept them as memorabilia. He played Zoltan and never won.

There was a slide show of last year’s celebration.

About sixty people attended the celebration.

The Book of Memories is still available for signing for anyone who stops by and it will then be given to the family

Elena Yeryomenko, the Life Style Program Manager at Chartwell, provided me with the above information. She first met him, when she was a student, when he was 100 years old and was astonished at his short-term memory. Even shortly before he passed, he still recognized her.
