General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Another titled player just joined aka a CM. A very talented junior who is only 11 years old. Probably playing in the championship section or U2100 section. Great opportunity if he opts to play in the championship section for experience or opt for $$$ if in the U2100 section. Definitely a player to watch in the near future.
We have almost 60 players now.
All sections are quite spread out except for U1800 section.
Remember - Dateline for early bird is Dec 17 and after that, the price goes up by $ 10 for every section.
Next list will be out on Thursday evening or Friday morning. If you have registered and you don't see your name, please notify us by sending us an email as soon as possible.
If you intend to play, don't wait any further less you miss out the $ 10 discount for early registration. You can use that to buy the lunch box worth $10.
Cheers

If you decide to play, please do not hesitate and wait for the last day/minute to register. You may forget and then misses it. I missed once before and I had to pay the price and looking back, i tell myself i shouldn't have done that ( waiting for the last day and then missed it and had to pay $ 60 ( 3 person * $20 ). To some $ 10 may mean nothing but to me it's worth a lunch meal or more.
10 more days to go which is after the completion of Hart House tournament ( Dec 15-17 ).
Payment can be by credit card and paypal. Paypal is on the right button option.
We have another National Master signed up last night which is fantastic. More competition will elevate the level of play and that is one of our objective. Very strong junior and will definitely provide stiff challenge to the top players.
Thanks to those who has signed up. We really appreciate it. Our success depends on your participation
Cheers to Chess in Canada.
Looking forward to host all of you at Holiday Inn, Oakville from Feb 2-4, 2018 ( less than 2 months from now ).

Finally we have surpassed the number 70 and going on to 80 now. Half way through our target of 150 players.
Thanks to those who have registered so far in our maiden tournament. We appreciate your support. Quite a big number of U1500 players registered lately. Still short on U1800 players.
Final call on the early bird dateline - Dec 17th, a week from today.
For those who have registered, please check the pre-registered list on our website to ensure the playing schedule ( 2 or 3 days ) are correct for you and the bye if you are taking any. If I have highlighted in yellow, that means it has not been confirmed yet by you on the playing schedule. 99% are confirmed though.
We have just surpassed 80 today and going on to 90 now.
Latest addition - Mississauga Open Open section champion. We have 10 in the Championship section. We will have some International players as well. More 1800 players signed up this few days.
Hopefully we can go on to touch 100 before the early bird dateline ends on Dec 17th (Sunday ) which is the last day of Hart House tournament. After the date, price goes up by $10 for every section that you play in.
Cheers

A flurry of registrations in the last couple of hours brings the number up to 90 now. Can we make it 100-120 before Dec 17th ? I certainly hope so. We are almost 2/3 of our target 150 players now.
We are still hoping that the Championship and the U2100 will have more players than current numbers which are about 10 players in the section. Please take note that we will have two boards " on live ". Two brand new wooden DGT boards just delivered from New York.
4 days to go before price goes up.
We have at least 10 players in each section now ( all the 6 sections ).
Please take note that the hotel will have the lunch box ready which we price them at only $ 10 each which is a very good deal. Place your order along with the entry fee. If you need 2 or 3, just select the numbers and you don't have to worry about going out looking for food. If you buy direct from the hotel, it will be priced higher than $ 10.
Cheers

We are fast approaching 100 now but these new registrations will not be in the latest list to be updated as I have submitted the list for updating on our website. It will be in the next week list.
Mostly U1500 section players.
3 more days to go before price goes up
Thanks to those who have registered and please check if your playing schedule ( 2 or 3 days ) are in order to avoid any mistakes in pairing. We will send a reminder later on.
Towards end of December, the section list will be segregated to 2 or 3 days schedule which will make it easier to read.
A very talented young kid just registered and playing in either U2100 or Championship section. Both sections will be FIDE rated so it will be very good for him in gaining valuable points.
I am certainly very glad that he is playing as this will provide him with good experience and also a chance to win the perfect score prize which is $ 1.5k ( if I am not mistaken ).
We reached 121 players at the end of last night and beat our own expectation of 100-120 players before the early bird entry fee ends.
Thanks so much for your registration and support for our maiden tournament.
All sections are pretty spread out with at least 16 players except for Championship section where we have 10 players only. Even U2100 section has close to 20 players now.
We will do our best in running the show with IA Danny Goldenberg as the TD and NM Mikhail Egorov as his assistant.
Watch out for the new list coming out this weekend on our website ( Dec 23rd, 2017 - Saturday )
If necessary, we may add another small room to accommodate more players to play in this tournament.
Cheers to Chess in Canada

The next update ( Dec 29, 2017 ) on the pre-registered list will be by section/day. The two groups of players ( 2 and 3 days ) will merge on round 3. Let us know if you find yourself in the wrong section. Latest rating will be used as well.
I am still waiting from some participants on their preference on their playing schedule - 2 or 3 days ? Please try to let us know soon so that the pairing will be done correctly.
It's about 40 days before the tournament begins and we are slowly climbing to 130 at this point of time.
Next dateline before the current regular price ends is Dec 31, 2017. Do not hesitate and wait. Holiday season is busy time and you will miss the dateline. About a week to go.
For GM and IM, the entry fee is still free but after this date ( Dec 31, 2017 ), it will go up to $ 114 just like everyone else.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2018.

2 names unidentified yet making the total 124 as at this morning.
- U1500 still have the most number of players just like other tournaments.
- Championship has the lowest number of players with only 10 despite our efforts to raise the prize money.
- Lots of beginner's players which is great.
- Quite a big number of U2100 players - 18 which is more than U1800 players.
Next update ( Dec 30, 2017 ) will be by section/day and the regular price will ends on Dec 31, 2017. Late entry fee starts to kick in from Jan 1, 2018
We are still very hopeful to reach the 150 players ( 26 more to go )
