      Re: Final Standings

Interesting that the winner of the Pro section won 4 in a row and then was unpaired ( I presume that is what "U" means ) for the last round, yet still won overall.

Doesn't "U" sometimes refer to "Withdrew"??

IF so, some organizers deny a prize to those not finishing the tournament, even if they are sole first (Without having to play the last round).

        Can anyone clarify?

How are the Entrance Fees redistributed amongst the sections? For instance, does the U1000 retain all it's Entrance Fees and that money (minus expenses) stays within that section for its Prize Fund?

From the advertising (above) "Prizes: $70 per Pro player returned as prizes. Trophies awarded in other sections"

"U" means when a TD assigned a zero point bye to a player before pairing. "H" for a 1/2 point bye and "B" for 1 point bye as default in cases when there is an odd number of players.

OK thanks JC, now I'm almost totally confused.

No mention of 1st, 2nd or 3rd prizes for the Pro section?

Very interesting format! Not including the amount of extra $$$ coming from the late reg. $, after Nov. 30 reg. $, and playing up a section $ ... and who knows what all those amount to ... about 3.7k is generated from the Ams.

All of this stuff really interests me ever since Bob. A posted his breakdown numbers of who carries the Chess Federation of Canada ... a CFC which has less than 7% of its membership with a CM title or higher.

Where have you been? This Guelph tournament format is used for ages.

Neil: if you are implying, as I guess you are, that the organiser is laughing all the way to the bank, ask yourself why so few people want to use the same format. Try organising a tournament yourself... it's a lot of work.

He tried once. It didn't work out and others had to come to the rescue.

John, stop guessing. You sound like most every CFC executive member for at least the last 10 years.

Shoulda known you'd respond the same old same old.

Well, that's surprising. I'm more likely to be described as a maverick (as I was, by a former CFC president) than a team-player.

The only CFC exec member I have ever met, I think, is Vlad Drkulec, and he and I are like chalk and cheese.
