2018 Kitchener-Waterloo February Quick

Date: Saturday, February 10, 2018
Place: Kitchener City Hall, 200 King St., Kitchener, ON
Rounds: Five (5)
Type: Active (Quick) Swiss system, each player plays five games.
Time Control: Game in 25 minutes plus 10 seconds delay per move (Bronstein)
Entry Fee: $30 all players with $5 discount for juniors (under 17 years) and seniors (65 years or older). Cash only at site (ATM available).
CFC Membership Required: Full one-year membership $48, juniors $32 and one-time adult tournament membership ($20). See www.chess.ca for details.
Sections: 1700+ and Under 1700 (players with a CFC rating under 1700 or new members.) or depending on entries, one combined section with section prizes.
Prizes: Based on Entries
Registration: Preregister by email to bclarke1661@rogers.com by midnight Feb 8 (to avoid late fee) or register on site by 9:00 on Feb 10 (you will have to pay a $10 late fee). All payments to be made on site before start of first round.
Rounds: 9:30 am, 10:30, lunch, 1:00 pm, 2:15 pm, 3:30 pm

Some people have preregistered by sending an email message to me, thus saving themselves the $10 late fee. This opportunity expires at midnight tonight, so if you want to play, make sure that you send me your preregistration message before then. Note that if you do preregister and then need to cancel, you can do so without penalty by sending me a notice before the start of the tournament.

We had a small but very nice quick tournament. Congratulations to the winners David Cummings and Hans Jung in the 1700+ Section and Mate Milinkovic, Bill Morrison and Henry Hughes in the Under 1700 Section. Note that David and Hans were undefeated while Mate achieved a perfect score. Thanks to Tom McClelland and Ed Thompson for co-arbiting.

Thanks Gary for your interest in our upcoming tournament, The Riedstra Memorial, and for posting the link to the flyer.

I created and first issued the flyer at the February Quick tournament last weekend. Since then, I have been reluctant to post the announcement on ChessTalk because registration will be online through our website which happens to be down due to domain registration issues. We expect the issues to be resolved shortly. In the meantime, I have decided to create a new post and issue the tournament announcement since the date is drawing very near.
