The Minister of Culture and Sport of Georgia will officially present the 43rd Chess Olympiad – Batumi 2018 - on April 17 in the “Biltmore” hotel’s congress-hall at 14:00 o’clock.
The Olympiad’s goodwill ambassador, a former World Chess Champion and the current World Rapid Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand will be the event’s guest of honour. FIDE Deputy President Georgeus Georgios Makropoulos will be visiting Tbilisi specially for the presentation. The Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Zurab Pataradze, the European Chess Union president Zurab Azmaiparashvili and the Georgian Chess Federation president Giorgi Giorgadze will talk about the importance of the Olympiad. The representatives of the governmental structures and diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia, the famous chess players, the Georgian veteran sportsmen and Olympic champions, and people distinguished in the culture and business filed – this is the list of the event’s guests. The 43rd Chess Olympiad’s Georgian goodwill ambassadors will be named for the first time – the Queens of Georgian chess, five-time World Chess Champions Nona Gaprindashvili and Maia Chiburdanidze. The Batumi Chess Olympiad video will be shown at the presentation. After the official part of the event ends, if desired, the guests will have the opportunity to play chess and look through the photographs specially created for this evening. The 43rd Chess Olympiad will be held in Batumi from September 23 till October 6. This large-scale event will attract under 4000 guests from 189 countries to Gerogia. Batumi won the right to host the Olympiad at the FIDE General Assembly held in Tromso, Norway in 2014, where the city got 93 votes, while its opponent Durban (South Africa) got – 58.
