  • European Open Tournaments!

So... I land in Dublin on September 4 and will be leaving on the 18th. My wife and I will be touring several European countries and haven't built an itinerary yet.

Anybody aware of any cool tournaments being held in that time frame? I find it very difficult to get any information via Google lol

    Thanks in advance!

    European Open Tournaments!

Supposedly the World’s Biggest Tournament Calendar can be found at:

    https://chess-calendar.eu/?page=2018-9&all_new=

Go to September, 2018 and pick the country and competition you want.

But won’t you be spending most of your vacation sitting at the chessboard rather than be touring Europe?

      Hi Matt,

When I've done this a couple times, I checked the FIDE listings for tournaments.
If you're there Sept 4-18, you want to look under October 2018 (when they're expected to be published).
      https://ratings.fide.com/tournament_list.phtml
Filter by country of where you plan to be at X point.
Note that, many organizers register their tournaments quite early, some could be listed as late as 2 weeks prior, so it may be worth re-checking closer to your trip dates.
Searching out the countries' federation can provide some info as well. Often they provide club listings that may have blitz or rapid events, not necessarily FIDE rated.

Bleh ... I see there are profile pictures up now, but couldn't figure out how to change it, though I hardly care. I guess I did make this chesstalk account at the same time as my Facebook, which I hardly use and explains the poor choice of avatar.

How do I set signatures, avatars and profile pictures?
You can set and change your signature, avatar and profile picture in the User Control Panel (providing the administrator has made these options available).
For signatures, click on 'Edit Signature' under the 'Settings and Options' area of the navigation bar within the User CP.
To select an existing or upload a new avatar, click on 'Edit Avatar'.
To upload a profile picture, click on 'Edit Profile Picture' in the 'Your Profile' section.
