Hi,
Very tiring game that I was very close to winning but in time trouble I was too tired to bring home the full point.
So I was white againt the #1 ranked player who is about 2650 Fide. Looking at his games it was possible that he could play anything. I opted to go with 1.c4 which I play very rarely, the stats showed that this was the most promising option, and I also had good memories of my first GM scalp, and was hoping to repeat. The idea was to get a plaiable position but after about 15 moves I found myself in a horrible position and down to about 15 minutes (time control is 30 in 90 with a 30 sec increment and another 30 minutes after 40 moves). So things looked bleak, I decided to try and play some simplifying moves and avoid the weakning of the position. To my surprise the GM started making some inaccurcies and I was able to outplay him in a very complicated middlegame. Just before molve 40 he sacced a pawn to regain the intiative, I defended cooly and repulsed the attack. Then I won a second pawn and it looked like the game would be over, but with the second time control approaching I was down to a few minutes with only the 30 sec increment. I decided to swap queens and go to the endgame, but I was too tired to calculate somne sharp lines and decided to allow a 3 move repition.
Not sure how Leonid did, he should have won given the lower class opponent. 2 Hours to rest before the next game. I am hoping for someone a little easier :)
