Somehow Mark have crossed 2300 after gaining about 48 FIDE rating points in Philadelphia International. 2255 + 48 = 2303. Also it was his first IM norm.

In the last day he needed to score 2/2 against 2400 players.

Congratulations Mark. Big result for you! (and Victor - werent you close to an IM norm yourself?)

Congrats to Mark, but Victor you had even a better start. I could not find the results of the last round, but looks like you are in good shape for the World Team over 50 this week!

Yes, after 4.5/6 I needed just 1/3 in the last 3 round. Loss in round 7 to a very strong young 2500+ Ukrainian IM was acceptable, but I played really bad in round 8 with white against not-so-strong opponent. To gain 38 or 39 points was not enough for the norm.

I got lucky in round 2, my opponent lost on time on move 40 (it was extra 30 minutes after move 40) in dead draw position.
