  • "Is Putin a king maker for the World Chess Federation?": Globe, Sept. 24/18

Is Putin a king maker for the World Chess Federation? That is the title of an article published by The Globe and Mail last Saturday, Sept. 24/18. The article is written by Paul Waldie, London correspondent. Here is the link: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/worl...ss-federation/ Hope the link works. Cheers, Frank

Actually, the date of the article is Sept. 22, not 24. My mistake.

      Hi Frank:

      Link didn't work:

      Oops! That page isn’t here.

We couldn’t find the page you were looking for one of the following reasons:
It has moved, it never existed, or an agreement
with an outside provider has expired.

Search Putin Chess on the Globe and Mail website and it comes up.

lol. IM Malcolm Pein just opened fire on his own foot.

“It’s a simple contest between the Soviet state, which wishes to control chess, and the long-time officials … who wish to retain the sport’s independence and take it forward and rebuild its reputation, which has been over the last 23 years,” said Malcolm Pein, a British chess journalist and accomplished player who’s running for deputy president on Mr. Makropoulos’s slate.
The "Soviet" Union came to an end almost 30 years ago. Is IM Pein getting coached by Garry K? lol.

Talk about a blast from the past. Living in the past, fighting old battles, blah blah.

I respect whomever the CFC decides to support. But it really looks like a foregone conclusion.
Dogs will bark, but the caravan of chess moves on.
