I think Agon's incompetence and the insider deal with IllusionOf would be reason enough... :)

LOL the more things change in organized chess ...... the more they stay the same.

I predicted that nothing would come of Agon's involvement in professional chess, despite the huge fanfare when it all began. The idea that masses of people would pay big $$$ for premium chess content on the web, such as online commentary or even (LOL again) watching the vital signs of players during a match .... incredulous that some investors bought into that.

And so Agon joins the Millionaire Chess Open as the two latest and greatest failures in turning a pure skill game like chess into a major money making enterprise. Now FIDE is left holding the bag as top level chess continues to suffer the doldrums of > 50% of results being draws. Sure, there can be exciting draws, but exciting to whom? NOT to the general public who are desperately needed to turn organized chess into a viable big-money business model.

It can survive at its current levels for some years to come, but to reach Agon or Millionaire Chess visions is a pipe dream without a tweak or two to chess itself.
