  • Chess references in social life

We've all seen uncountable references to chess, especially in advertising, where the noble game is used to lend some dignity to some product or service.

So why not a thread on such references generally?

The first one is from the Friends of the Public Service. It seems that there are some signs of more militant "fight back" against cuts, austerity, etc., and the tactics harken back to a previous era. The following is from a union in the UK (United Voices of the World) that tried a more creative approach to class conflict.

The UVW was using a variation on an old tactic from the 1970s, called the chessboard strike, in which rapid changes in strike plans among alternating sections of the workforce lead to chaos in the workplace.

I've always thought that chess is a great learning tool. lol.
