  • Finally beat a GM in Edmonton International

It has been a long time, but in round 2, I got quite lucky to beat Alex Shabalov in the Edmonton International. Sadly I lost round 1 to Steven Zierk and round 3 to Nikolay Noristyn, but
hopefully learned a lot. The games are on chess24.com . Just go to the Watch tab and Edmonton International. Six rounds left. No draws before move 30.

Haven't had a chance to look at the game(s) yet, but congratulations. That must be an amazing feeling.

      The passed a-pawn wasn't scary.

Are PGN files available (without having to be a Premium member on chess24)?

        Thanks!

              Congrats Ian!

I think the best result I had in my chess career was a draw with Peter Nurmi...decades ago :).

I think it was at one of Vlad's events in Toronto in the years when he was the King of Canadian Chess Organization. :)

Doesn't work. I get this message when I try to either download a game, a round, or the entire tournament. I want to add this tournament before I update CanBase in early July.

Go Premium to download PGN files

Congrats Ian! Does 32 B*B6 Rb8*b6 33.Q-d4 simply lead to spearing a rook?

Has anyone noticed that the ChessTalk response counter is not working for this thread? Very strange.

OMG, Sid, please do not fall for that trap. After 33...Rxd6! 34. Qxd6 Re1+ black would be winning. I was trying to find, safe moves, knowing that I had a huge advantage. 32. Bxb6 Rxb6 33. d7! would be winning though. I hated to give up my nice bishop!

Hugh, since I am a premium member, I can download tournament when it is over and send it to you. I have emailed you the 1st five rounds I believe, to see if it works.
