Re: Montreal International - round 1 games

Shulman and Tiviakov have just reached the time control. They're going into a Q+R vs. Q+R endgame with equal pawns

On second thought, Tiviakov can get a better position with Rd1

          Re: Montreal International - Rd. 6 Bacrot-Bluvshtein

Kovalyov and Bluvshtein are both doing quite well, although I can't say I'm too surprised. Roozmon on the other hand seems out of place(skill-wise) in the tournament, although he did rightfully qualify. Going for a draw with 1/5 against a lower rated player with white doesn't make any sense to me though, but I guess everyone has their own thinking. He got killed in 27 moves so maybe he will think differently next time. I think he's gonna have to switch up his openings a bit, especially taking more risks if he wants to get over the GM hump.

Re: Montreal International - round 1 games

The transmission of moves from the official site is not very good. If they are using DGT boards, why the delay in the transmission of moves? We've been waiting for Bacrot's move 14 against Bluvshtein for some time now - can't be thinking that long. We'll likely next get a clump of moves all at the same time ( was happening the other day ). Anyone know what the problem is?
Possibly - a move was made that upset the DGT transmission (piece fell over, piece not completely on square, etc.) - and the susequent moves would have to be transmitted manually (unless you want to disturb the players by physically making the
              lost
moves on their board). Someone would have to go over to the board, check for the missing moves, and enter them manually on the computer. That could explain the "arrival" of several moves all at once.

                Re: Montreal International - Rd. 6 - Akobian-Naiditsch - Correct Game Score?

In Rd. 6, in Akobian vs Naiditsch, the DGT board live showed the game going to 23.Nd4. But the pgn game ( and the viewer ) only go to move 16.Bxh7+.

                Which is correct?

Re: Montreal International - Rd. 7 Live Games?

The official site says Rd. 7 started at 5:10 pm today. But since then the live games link has still shown the games' scores from yesterday - and it is now 6:00 pm.

Anyone on site know what is going on?

Seems like the criticisms of the level of viewer service on the website by ChessVibes and Kevin Spraggett recently have some validity.

Re: Montreal International - round 1 games

Leader GM Bacrot has a very interesting position. He played h6 and g5 to chase away a bishop and win a pawn. However, the h file is now open and GM Moiseenko can set up an attack. This is a critical game in the tournament and will heavily affect the final result.

Bacrot drew Moiseenko on move 12. I thought the game would be much more interesting than that.

But couldn't white have won with 66. d6+ followed by Bg4 and d7. I'm not sure about this variation, if someone could look deeper into it...

A win here would've put Mark in lone 3rd place. Half a point behind the leaders

The standings after 7 rounds are:

                                1st- Bacrot, Naiditsch 5 pts
3rd- Bluvshtein, Maze, Kovalyov 4 pts
6th- Onischuck, Akobian, Bhat 3.5 pts
                                9th- Tiviakov, Shulman, 3 pts
                                11th- Moiseenko 2 pts
                                12th- Roussel-R 1.5 pts

Mostly draws today. The most exciting game was Naiditsch-Kovalyov. It featured a great Knight Sac and a winning attack by Naiditsch. A great game.
