This attitude makes me lose so much respect for Magnus. You've gotten to be number 1 all time in one of the pursuits with which number 1 has the the least emotionally draining career (maybe it's easier being Joey Chestnut or Floyd Mayweather but in 99% of pursuits the GOAT spends a lot of time losing). Mike Trout has lost more games than he's won and Magnus has literally gotten to go over a year without a real loss. Now he loses a few quick games in a format that doesn't affect his rating and bitches and moans like this? I just think it's embarrassing and disrespectful to all of these 2750+ players who've dedicated their lives to the game and earned these victories against him.

    _________

ChessBase: Levon Aronian won the Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz tournament despite losing his last round game against former leader Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. The French grandmaster ended up sharing second place with Yu Yangyi and Ding Liren — the Chinese duo had a strong showing at the blitz, as they got the best scores in the last two days of action (11½ out of 18, the same score obtained by Sergey Karjakin). World champion Magnus Carlsen finished in sixth place but still leads the overall GCT standings

I never thought I would see a tournament where Magnus would lose ten games! One hopes for better things for him in the Sinquefield Cup coming up.

Carlsen lost complete interest in the tournament after his losses and seemed to play almost anything in the openings. These comments online:

    - Sergey Karjakin and Ding Liren had the best result in day 1 of blitz, scoring an impressive 6.5/9 each!

    - Maxime continues his cunning strategy of winning/leading rapid and blitz tournaments while leaking rating points!

Carlsen: "Everything's going wrong. My confidence is long gone & now I just don't really care anymore... My no. 1 wish now is for the tournament to be over - it cannot come soon enough. You're probably going to see more of the same tomorrow”

    Geir Sune T. Østmoe –

    The struggle is real.

Coach: «Study the games of the top players!»

One of the best highlights of being in St. Louis is being able to have a conversation with celebrity players. I can think of Vishy Anand, Lenier Dominguez, Wesley So, and Veselin Topalov. Of course, you have to choose a meaningful topic (of interest to them). Yasser Seirawan is definitely the most forthcoming of all of them, when he has the time.

We got to the hall early and were the second people they allowed in, so we had a spot right up against the ropes for the Carlsen/Caruana game. Ne5 was exciting to see in person. Fabiano graciously stopped for a photo with 2 of my children.
