  • Chess Vacation

After spending a few great summers in Europe playing chess and vacationing, decided I want to go back, even if for one week. Here is the tourney that I had in mind, a great location too from what I hear and mostly 1 round a day (awesome). If anyone's interested, let me know! http://heraklionchess.com/wp-content...7oopen_eng.pdf

Heraklion in September seems to be perfect. The Hotel Galaxy is perfectly located, about 5-10 minutes from the Airport. The only concern I would have with the tournament is because the entry fee is a bit high (70 euros and only 500 euros to the winner), I fear the opposition might be a bit weak for you (last year the highest rated was 2151 and only 4 players over 2000). Tournament happening from Tuesday to Tuesday is a bit unusual but I think I like it. A bit last minute for me for this time around but I'm already planning something else for August 2021 in Portugal if you are interested. Good luck. Please take pictures and share :-).

Thanks Serge, looking forward to seeing the place and Crete in general. In terms of value, 70 euros is much less than the major US tourneys and European venues like Biel, so even the low prize fund isn't a big deterrent. Probably not the best tourney for norm-seekers but great as a vacation and a confidence-booster :) Would be interested in Portugal, as long as dates don't coincide with work. Been there in 2017, great trip, great place.

Great idea Mike, I envy you. Is it possible to take a picture if you see outdoor chess tables while on your chess vacation?
