I have had the pleasure of meeting this fellow...he is a good friend of Jonathan Berry...

The Mikhail Botvinnik Award, for best trainer of men or a team in an open event, goes to William John Donaldson

Yes, I agree, he is always wonderful to deal with as the U.S. Team Captain.

Great choice. He is also a great chess historian as well as a very nice man. I met him at the World Youth Team in Chicago in 1983 when he played for the USA B team. I loved hearing his Bobby Fischer lecture.

Where is that picture when you need it? (you know - when a picture is worth more than a thousand words) This picture was on facebook and other places. It showed John Donaldson, Jeremy Silman, John Watson, and Cyrus Lakdawala together. It also showed that they were best friends. Distinguished authors, celebrities, leaders in the chess world as well as many other things - but above all best friends. Where is that picture?

I have met John at a chess book auction in Buffalo. We talked about the scores of Fischer simuls in Argentina. He is a great guy!

The photo that Hans wants is in an article by Silman in chess.com – scroll down to you reach the title A Forum of Four – Donaldson, Silman, Lakdawala and Watson

          See:

Can someone post the photo? I have my hands full with the Isle of Man postings at the moment!
