Win Magnus Carlsen's 2018 World Championship Jacket
Auction supports the Chess of Asunción project
A one-of-a-kind opportunity to own a piece of chess history while enabling more children to play and enjoy the game.
Chess can be a fun game, a competitive sport and a strong pedagogic tool. It helps develop self-critical and flexible thinking, discipline, creativity, memory and concentration. In some parts of the world, however, learning chess is not accessible to everyone.
To help change this reality, Magnus Carlsen will auction the original jacket he wore while defending his World Chess Championship title against Fabiano Caruana in London in 2018. The proceeds will be donated to Chess of Asunción, a Paraguayan project which transforms wood waste into chess pieces and boards for low-income schools.
Why Paraguay?
According to the last World Economic Forum Report, Paraguay has the lowest quality education in Latin America. In an attempt to tackle this problem, Paraguay passed a law in 2018 that establishes chess as a school support activity. But one year later, due to a lack of resources, almost no school has chessboards or pieces with which to teach. Chess of Asunción was started to help solve this problem.
Chess of Asunción
The City of Asunción generates thousands of tons of waste wood from illegal pruning and falling trees, which is both a problem and an opportunity. Chess of Asunción collects, transforms and develops that wood to produce chess sets that enable schools to teach chess and the skills that chess develops.

Chess champion Magnus Carlsen moves to top of world fantasy football rankings
Magnus Carlsen, the world’s best chess player for the last decade, is leading the Premier League’s official fantasy football table, beating over seven million players.
The grandmaster is enjoying his best season ever in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game and held on to top spot on Sunday after moving to the summit thanks to a fine Saturday in which his captain, Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, scored twice to earn 32 points.
Upon reaching the top of the standings he changed his Twitter profile to reflect his lofty position, it now reads: “World Chess Champion. The highest ranked chess player in the world. Current (live) #1 Fantasy Premier League player.”
Carlsen, like many Norwegians, is obsessed with both the Premier League and its fantasy league spin-off. In 2017, eight players from Norway were in the top 50 FPL players in the world.
According to chess journalist Tarjei Svensen, who has known Carlsen since he was eight and follows all of his games. “His ability at fantasy league has been known for a couple of seasons now, but this season has been exceptional and he’s had another good week,” Svensen said.
Svensen reckons Carlsen excels at FPL because of a phenomenal memory for Premier League details. His level of knowledge about English football is amazing, which must help him a lot,” he says.
