Chess in Canada is NOT about us needing them. Chess in Canada is all about you ...as Canadians.

So sorry to see the Chess Federation of Canada being led by those who have no sense of belonging. No sense of community.

    Introverted ...as always.

    ...sigh.

    peace.

But if the CFC could find a qualified auditor who would do it for less ...; a chess player perhaps!?

When I got those numbers I talked to other non-profit board members. They seemed to think that it was not possible to get much of a deal. An audit requires work which cannot really be streamlined by the accountant. He or she puts their reputation on the line so they have to do all due diligence. The point is not so much the number, it is the fact that in order to justify the year to year cost we would really need to make a sustained push to raise large sums of money by this means in order for it to make sense. Raising such sums would be a full time job and would require that you pay someone to do it. Your focus quickly slips away from running a federation and focuses on raising money. Then we get those reports that show that most of the money raised goes to salaries. Even spending money raises some unintended consequences.

There is no doubt that the CFC could do more to raise money. There is also no doubt that the CFC can't do this without more volunteers or paid employees or contractors. Even the new resources uncovered by our involvement with the Canadian Sports Tourism Alliance had some major hiccups. Some people on the local organizer level got upset that we were disturbing their slumber. There were entire provinces who could not absorb additional events because organizers were running flat out already. Only now in our third year of involvement are we working through these issues and getting more people to access these opportunities.
