Everyone who follows Canadian chess should know who 17 year old FM Joshua Doknjas from the Vancouver area is. His CFC rating has recently risen to 2390, and he is ranked 28th in Canada among players who have played a CFC event in the past 12 months. This is his 2nd book, as he co-authored one with his brother John, on the Sicilian Nadjorf previously. At the 2019 Canadian Closed he took down eventual winner, Evgeny Bareev in round 1.

I'm waiting for my copy of "Chess Concepts: The Evolution of Chess Ideas" to arrive in the mail. It was written by Saint John chess legend, Dan Elman, who some will remember from his role as Executive Director of the 1988 World Chess Festival is Saint John. The book is based on his well known series of chess lectures that a large number of New Brunswick players attended during the 60's-80's.

It was at the Canadian Closed. Brother John is working on a new book as well. I'm not sure that its still a secret but at the time I was told, it was.

          hello,

I guess a Nadoritsky writes a book at 10 years of age, nothing is impossible. Congrats Joshua to have convinced an editor for your book. Indeed it must be good. Sorry to have miss who's who defeating Bareev in recent times. We rarely hear news from this far away province, BC, here in deep Quebec province (Shawinigan).

The Zonal was in Kingston, and there's no need to travel: https://chess.ca/newsfeed/node/1123

John is set to publish a book on the Benoni, according to the Everyman chess site

And the Kingston Easter Chess event will happen at least 3 more years. The 2020 edition, in Kingston, at Easter, will include the following sections:

Canada Women Zonal, Women Reserve, Canadian Closed (>=2200), U2200, U1900, U1600.

For 2019, Patrick Gougeon and I posted at both ChessTalk and Parlons Echecs. We had many excited participants from La Belle Province (Quebec!)
