  • COVID-19 Announcement by CFC. Where Is It?

What's taking the 'leadership' of the Chess Federation of Canada soooo long to make a formal announcement concerning COVID-19 and its affect on chess tournaments here in Canada?

    Hm?

It's at CFC News. ChessTalk is an independent forum.

(and I don't work for the CFC, so don't ask me why lol)

Then it is very well hidden.

I tried the CFC Main Page today, March 15 at 8PM. I tried the links titled "News". I tried the CFC Facebook page. No mention anywhere.

The only place it is mentioned is on the CFC bulletin board and it is not a sticky. For comparison see the Scouts Canada webpage, https://www.scouts.ca/

Even better, look to the FQE. https://fqechecs.qc.ca/editeur/artic...x.php?id=14194. The CFC should be at least as responsive.

The CFC is not qualified to give medical advice. We will leave that to our medical authorities. Our forums are where we make most announcements and not necessarily our website. For the most part I will not get involved in major discussions on chesstalk since I don't feel that the trolls are adequately controlled and regulated.

If you don't pay attention to CFC forums you will miss important announcements once things return to normal at the conclusion of this zombie apocalypse.

At Walmart tonight I saw a set-to between two people about a case of water. Apparently it is in short supply and one person had paid for it and left it on the motorized cart while he went somewhere (either to the bathroom or McDonalds and when he came back for it the other person was trying to claim it). People are rude in the zombie apocalypse. The person trying to steal the water was quite irate that the person who originally bought it was claiming it. If it came to blows I had the feeling that the thin man who looked to be in his thirties but had a lot of mileage on his body would prevail over the seventy year old woman who just seemed irritating to me. Reminded me of the woman that tried to steal my mat in the Halifax airport a couple of years ago.

Tap water is just as good as bottled water and often better.
        .

Many provinces are cancelling their respective tournaments. The organizer of the Canadian Women's Zonal and Canadian Closed has cancelled / postponed those events. The Federal Government today has announced groups of people have to be 50 or less. In any case finding a venue for 40-50 people will be near impossible now, and I suspect the only CFC tournaments held in the next 2 months will be ones with less than 10 players.
