With social distancing in most countries, the barber shops and beauty parlours are closed. People are cutting their own hair, if they can. Peter comes in somewhat upset, because it was his daughter Nikita’s turn for a haircut at home and she opted for something shorter than a crewcut. We shall see if Peter himself is shorn tomorrow.

Lawrence Trent comes in and he is practically bald. He cut his own hair. The reason? He tutors students online.

Magnus Carlsen on best players not to be World Champion:

"Bronstein I think is massively overrated... we're talking objective strength here and not if you were close to being World Champion or not? Bronstein was World Champion level, but not for very long"

"I think probably Levon at this point, but Fabi will I think eclipse him.........<very long pause>........... unless he wins the World Championship!"

“Ivanchuk? A wonderful player but more of a cult figure than objectively the best.”

I've cut my own hair since I was 17. Not only is it free but no person in the world has a bigger incentive to be careful around my head with a sharp object than I do.

regarding Firoujza's missed 19.fxe6 - always examine your in between moves (zwischenzugs) or youre sure to miss opportunities.

Peter has two sons, no daughters - Nikita is a male name in Russia

If anyone is to be blamed for this confusion , it must be Elton John.

I can’t justify my mistake but I did like the 1990 French film, La Femme Nikita.

One of his bios says that Peter has twin sons, Nikita and Daniel.

My last haircut was almost two months ago. With my voluntary shut-in, I have been watching chess and, when that is over for the day, episodes of NCIS. If I can buy a hair trimmer, I might try cutting mine to get the military haircut of Special Agent Gibbs!

Rd 9 Karjakhin - Firoujza 37...Nh4 and 38...g4 doulbe can opener who can resist? Nicely prying open the king's position. The computer variation with 39.b3 leads to a fascinating endgame with 3 pawns for a knight (and the delicious outside passed H pawn)

The first and the second teams after round 10 qualify to the second stage – “Superfinal” match. The winner of this “Superfinal” match is declared ONC Winner. In a case of tie, a team finished first after ten rounds of the round- robin stage is declared ONC Winner.

                                - Wesley So may have "missed" mate-in-2, but beating the previously unbeatable Yu Yangyi on the black side of a 5.Re1 Berlin looks to have qualified the USA for the superfinal against China!

                                - USA will play China again in tomorrow's final, with half a game point making all the difference!

Tomorrow's Superfinal will start an hour later, so 7:00 a.m. Pacific / 10 a.m. Eastern / 16:00 CEST. China will have white on boards one and three. As the winner of the round-robin, China got to choose and also has draw odds in the one match that is the final.

In other words, the USA needs to do again what no other team managed: beat China. Again.

Jan Gustafsson’s little daughter pulled aside the screen again. She was playing ghost. Peter stopped talking so the viewers could watch the interaction between her and Jan and I think he said that he had eighteen-year-old sons.
