  • Mystery game #4: A sweet treat!

Here is a game score. Your task is to guess the players' strengths, the setting and date, time controls, and any other relevant info. You can also add analysis and comments. Enjoy! I will ask the players, if they are reading this, to refrain from comment until I identify the game data. The trendy Ultra - Accelerated Sicilian Dragon is featured; sometimes known as the Pterodactyl! IM Lawrence Day was playing this line with success for Black from the 1970s, and it is covered in IM (GM elect) Raja Panjwani's recent book; he is my former student!.

Simon Gladstone (2152) vs Ben Kellar (2016), Canadian University Team Championship 2016, Kingston. Gladstone played for Queen's, Kellar for Carleton. Time control was G|60'+30" for the three rounds on the first of the two days, including this game. I served as Deputy Arbiter, and created the database, posted to chess5.com a few days later, but the score-sheet tor this game had problems, which I have just now sorted out. Simon was also the main organizer for this successful event, and that always hurts one's play. The room used as the site had problems with lack of heat for this early January event, but it has now been renovated to solve this.
