Netflix says 'Queen's Gambit' draws record 62M households
“The Queen’s Gambit,” the buzzy, female-led drama set in the 1960s chess world, has become Netflix Inc.’s most popular limited scripted series ever.
Some 62 million households watched the show in its first 28 days, Netflix said Monday. In the streaming giant’s typical practice, it provided no direct context for the figure, and Netflix shows have no independent ratings figures.
Still, “The Queen’s Gambit” is clearly among Netflix’s more culturally resonant programs of recent years. Since its debut in October, searches for chess sets on eBay are up 250%, and Walter Tevis’s 1983 novel that inspired the series has returned to bestseller lists, Netflix said in a blog post.
The seven-episode series is ranked in the top 10 most watched on Netflix in 92 countries, including first in 63, the company said.
The show follows an orphaned female chess prodigy, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, who struggles with drug addiction as she rises to become one of the world’s best players.

At one point 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 is referred to as the Closed Sicilian. Was this actually called the Closed Sicilian in the 60's, or is this just a mistake?
In the first episode 1.d4 is also called the Queen's Gambit, which is a pretty weird error to make.Comment

At one point when I was learning chess long ago 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 was known as the open Sicilian. If the D pawn didnt get pushed and captured then it was known as a closed Sicilian.Originally posted by Lucas Davies View PostComment

If they wanted to continue historically, she could be Board 1 (or 2 behind Larsen) in the USSR vs the world match, playing against the Russian boy she played against in Mexico. Get married and have her trying to make a living writing articles for chess magazines, tv show appearances, and running a chess cafe in New York City. Playing hippies in the park, Washington Square. Anya Taylor-Joy to host Saturday Night Live

"Saturday Night Live" has set the stage for its final hosts of the season. Keegan-Michael Key and "The Queen's Gambit" star Anya Taylor-Joy will host the long-running sketch show on May 15 and May 22, respectively.
Key will be joined by musical guest Olivia Rodrigo, known for her angsty ballads "Drivers License" and "Deja Vu." (The former of which was satirized in a "SNL" sketch earlier this season.) Lil Nas X will be performing on the season finale. The musician revealed on Twitter that he will be performing a new song during the program, as well as his song "Montero."
News of Key and Taylor-Joy's hosting duties will likely be better received than that of Elon Musk. The Tesla CEO is set to make his hosting debut this weekend, despite apparent displeasure from "SNL" cast members. However it pans out, at least there will be a palate cleanser before season's end.

Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. 2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings

Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.

14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
