  • Mystery game #37: White just enough sharper in complex KID struggle

Here is the text of an interesting game. You can discuss the game, offer variations, guess as to players' identities, strengths, era of game, setting, time controls, etc. I will provide all the data in a few days. Enjoy!!

Sorry, typo at Black move 17: should be ...Rbc8, NOT ...Rbd8.

Um, you could EDIT the original post so people could just grab the entire set of moves and put in a .pgn file
Even better {- although a little more work} would be to post an actual pgn file... :) Thanks all the same Frank.

Even better would be if these games (well any posted games) would be within a game-viewer - is that feasible?

Constructive suggestions from Kerry and Aris are received with gratitude.
I am a bit behind in the tech area. I think a pgn format is possible; more keystrokes of course. I will respond in more detail a bit later.

Tony Lin (Juntao) [2228] -- Joey Zhong [2004], Ontario High School Championship, Toronto 2014 (2). Played 2014-05-23. Time controls 30/90, SD/60.
Lin was representing Dr. Norman Bethune Collegiate Institute; Zhong was representing the host University of Toronto Schools. TD: Christopher Field; Head Arbiter NTD Frank Dixon.
Lin pushed his rating over 2200 in early 2013, and has kept it there, but has played only about a dozen CFC-rated events since; rare for a strong, young player. I believe he has served as Rating Auditor for the CFC. Zhong is now rated over 2150.
In the game, in a very complex Saemisch King's Indian, Black, down a pawn with less space, tries a fancy combination beginning with 25...Nxd5!? He pursues a queen exchange to set up interesting attacking play, regaining two pieces for a rook after his piece sacrifice. White defends precisely. The only problem is at the end, after White has just queened his d-pawn, Black, looking to do the same with HIS d-pawn, would then lose to a mating combination, initiated by the new queen!! Do you see it!? So, he resigned. A very well played, original game by two talented young players!!
