  • Karpov Chess Academy?

What ever happened to that Karpov Chess Academy thing? I remember there was some hype a couple years ago about it and I think they actually ran something in Toronto. Was it just a one time experiment?

I seem to recall the CFC gave them a bunch of money, maybe $6,000, as a start-up grant. Don't know what the results were, whether long-term or short-term.

When I first saw Eric's question, I thought it would be funny to write: "They probably hung around long enough to collect some government grant". But then I thought: "That's not funny if it is false". I can't imagine the old (1970-1985) CFC giving a chess academy a grant.

      Anyway, the website:
      http://www.karpovchess.ca/
seems to be offline. The fact that it hasn't been sitenapped might mean something.

Here's a message from Yan, dated October, 2007

They seem to have done some good things in Ontario.

They also appear to have been mentioned on an episode of Mitt i Quack (oops, Schach) from around the same time.
