  • A chance to see Evgeny Bareev Lectures on Zoom starting Saturday, January 30th

The Calgary Chess Club is putting a lecture series via Zoom. There are 4 lectures left. Two are by our Canadian Champion and former world #4 Evgeny Bareev. This can be enjoyed anywhere in the world. For more details go to the Alberta Chess Association website http://www.albertachess.org/home/ Kudos to Steve Sklenka and the Calgary Chess Club to offer this opportunity during the pandemic.

The first of the 4 sessions has already taken place on Jan 23. I found it quite enjoyable and look forward to the two upcoming zoom sessions with GM Bareev too.
NOTE: sessions 2 and 3 are on Saturday(s) and the 4th and final session is a Sunday session (just FYI)
...Mike Pence: the Lord of the fly.

Thanks for the correction Kerry. I believe it is only $33 to watch final 3 lectures, whereas it was $39 to watch all 4, but still a big bargain.

GM Surya Ganguly and David Navara have been added to the lecture series. For more information go to http://www.albertachess.org/home/
Surya, has his own Youtube channel where he gives great instructional videos. He has also played in Alberta many times and is a class act. Perhaps best known for being on Anand's team when he was winning World Championship. David Navara was rated as high as 2751 in 2015 when he was #13 in the world.

Approximately 40 people from across Canada enjoyed GM Bareev's entertaining lecture on Saturday. Evgeny was able to reach all levels of players in the audience as well as recount some of his personal experiences as a player. After the lecture he answered questions from the audience for about 30 minutes. Many thanks to Steve Sklenka and the Calgary Chess Club for organizing this great event.
