  • Rick Pedersen - Great contributor to Alberta Chess - RIP

This was posted on FB by the Edmonton Chess Club

It is with sadness I announce that I have been informed that one the great friends of Chess in Alberta, Rick Pedersen, has died a few days ago, at the age of 72. Rick had experienced several health issues in the last few years.
Rick was the President of the Alberta Chess Association for five years (2010 - 2015), and was on the Board of the Edmonton Chess Club prior to that. He was a strong chess player from his early years, having finished in 2nd place in the Calgary Chess Championship at the age of 20, back in 1968. After moving to Edmonton, were he worked for many years with the Edmonton Journal newspaper, Rick competed strongly in a great many tournaments, getting his rating as high as 2126 in 2009. We will hold a Memorial tournament in his honour at some point after we are able to re-open the Club.

Working...
