  • world-class Arbiter honoured with 2021 International Women of Courage Award

Ms. Shohreh Bayat is one of the true class acts of chess, and my goodness it hasn't been easy for her!

Congratulations Shohreh from all your Canadian friends!

A very well deserved award!! I have heard a bit about her. Certainly, women in many Islamic countries face continuing struggles if they attempt to develop careers, advance their own education, or assist other people in ways deemed inappropriate by their male-dominated societies. And media is often lacking in reporting basic facts. It would be great if mainstream Canadian media could pick up this story, and give it some prominence.
The U.S. Department of State has itself struggled during the Trump presidency 2017-2021, so this small step, with Joe Biden as president, is hopefully a sign of better things to come!!
