Fortune favoured the brave after Anish Giri sacrificed a piece, but he only won the first blitz game after Ian Nepomniachtchi blundered in a won position!

Just when it all looked to be going Nepo's way he blunders and now has to do it all again - he must win on demand to force Armageddon!

After 9 Sicilians in a row Nepo finally brings out the big guns... 1.b3!

Nepomniachtchi is in huge trouble in a game he must win! Giri with excellent chances to win

Congratulations to @AnishGiri on winning the #MagnusInvitational and a place in the Finals of the @Meltwater Champions Chess Tour!
    _______________

Peter Doggers: After another 2-2 in their second match, GM Anish Giri defeated GM Ian Nepomniachtchi in the playoff to win the Magnus Carlsen Invitational on Sunday. Giri earned $60,000 for first place. GM Magnus Carlsen came third after securing two game points vs. Wesley So.

Playoffs game one Giri played 17.Ne5+! instinctive but psychologically very hard to defend against (especially in speed). Later on Giri lost his way but Nepo than blundered. Very hard to recover from that. Congratulations to Anish who played the best chess of all the contestants throughout the tournament.

So Brad what do you think it is about Peter that is so compelling as a commentator?

Hey Hans! Peter first assesses the position strategically, explaining the basic plans involved for both sides. Then he shows move sequences designed to bring about those plans, and looks for any tactics that may present themselves. He always points out the key squares and potential pawn breaks. He is always on the lookout for tricks. He spots the shots quickly. Also, he wonderfully answers the excellent questions that Tania poses. From time to time he messes up and admits it and explains why. He shows how a chess player thinks. He does move along very quickly and sometimes I cannot catch up, but this forces one to work harder.

Everyone complained about all of the boring draws. Faster time controls online have solved the problem to an extent. This is very exciting and educational chess.
