  • Final standing and prizes

    Hello everyone,

    Results
You can see the final rankings and prizes: 1 - the FQE homepage: http://www.fqechecs.qc.ca/ and 2 - on the Monroi website.

Congratulations to our new Montreal Champion the Internationnal Master Jean Hebert who finished alone in the lead with 4.5 / 5 and our Female Montreal Champion WGM Salome Melia who finished in 2nd place in Section A. See the FQE report , on the first page and do not miss the French HPE newsletter tonight that should talk about it.

    Promotion of chess among women
We achieved a record participation of 12% women. As you can see from the photos and videos reports, the female participation is noticeable in all sections and has brought much color and beauty to our 89th Montreal Chess Championship. We want 20% female participation for our 90th anniversary. Thank you to our sponsor Goddesschess for his contribution of additional prizes for women and the contribution of a female GM to our championship. Next year we believe we will have probably 2 or 3 female Grand Masters!

    Facebook
The Open Championship Montreal is now on Facebook and we have attracted several new players in our Chess community with this great social tool. We have 550 friends. We invite you to join our family on Facebook. These days you can read our reports on the visit of GM Salome Melia from Georgia and her little vacation. She will give a simultaneous at Café Pi on St-Laurent St, Montreal, wednesday 07:00 pm for $10 per player and all this will be covered on Facebook.

    Elite
With the participation of 2 GMs, 8 IM (more than the Canadian Closed) and 31 players with a rating over 2000 and many of which did a return to competition, we feel Canadian Elite players believe in our formula. We have established many contacts that should bring us even more elite players next year.

    Youth
Youth participation is at the heart of the aggressive marketing of the Montreal Open Championship. We cherish a target over three years to attract, through our agreement with the Chess'N Math Association, youth who are ready for slow games. New faces have appeared this year and we believe that it will become a snowball over the long term. We thank the Chess'N Math Association and Larry Bevand.

    2010 Edition
We thank the many players who have completed our survey form. After reading them, our president M. Pierre Hebert said to his exhausted team: "Next year we have to be even more agressive!". We learned a lot with this 2009 issue and our president is very motivated. So this is good news!

Thank you to the 191 players who participated. Thank you to our volunteers and our Champions.
