  • Mystery game #90: Two FIDE-titled players create interesting short draw

Here is the text of an interesting game. You can discuss the game, player strengths, era, format, setting, time controls, variations, etc. I will provide all data in a few days. Enjoy!!

FM Glenn Johnstone (2337) -- IM Deen Hergott (2539), Kingston Open 1996 (4). Played 1996-02-11. Colle System, A47. Time controls 30/90', SD/60'. Organizer / TD: Larry Bevand, Assistant: Frank Dixon.

Not much needs to be said here. White is lower-rated by 200 points, with both players doing very well in the tournament, for this board one game, in round four of five. White plays carefully in a quiet system, and Black does much the same, aiming for some imbalance with 15...Qh5. Black could have played into a sharper system, such as a King's Indian or Dutch, but with another round coming later the same day, both players save their energy with a 20-move game, which is well-played, but not very exciting!
