  • first chess by telephone in Canada?

I was reading in New in Chess that Alexander Graham Bell got his son Melvin to install a line in Hamilton. Apparently it was the first commercial telephone venture in Hamilton Ontario and the client used it to play chess with two opponents (3 phones on a line) The date was August 1877. How come I never heard of this before. Was it because I wasnt paying attention (very possible). It sounds like a great moment in history.

Probably NIC got their info from this Hamilton "Spectator" article from February 13: https://www.thespec.com/life/local-h...the-moves.html

    Or maybe from here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Cossart_Baker_Jr.

Bill Wall also mentions it (scroll down to 1877): http://billwall.phpwebhosting.com/ar...e_internet.htm

So it looks like it's been a known fact for some years.
