Well, Rapport is here. He is World Number 11, just behind Radjabov and a little ahead of Firouzja. Kramnik is listed but not playing. What actually is happening is that there is the Team Bacrot/Kramnik. Bacrot will play the rapid portion and Kramnik will play the blitz portion of the tournament. Their combined score will account for one placing.

Some great entertainment. It was nice to see a crisp endgame win from Bacrot over Rapport before getting hammered by Nepo and Aronian. Bacrot is no slouch of a player but Nepo made him look like one.

Both Fabulous Fabi and Peter Svidler have had rough wakeups today. Etienne Bacrot had another great endgame scalp against Fabi.
Wesley So seems to be dominating in his games. Very sharp play.

Alireza Firouzja spent over 7 minutes on 20.Nf5?! (20.Rxc3!), but the exchange sacrifice 20...Ne5! leaves Levon Aronian on top!

Just when Firouzja had fought his way back into the game, 35.Kh1? allowed 35...h4! (with Rh8 to follow) and Aronian is winning!

Incredible - Levon Aronian blunders in a winning position and Firouzja is about to pick up his 1st win!

Of course that wasn't the end of the story as with under 5 seconds on his clock Alireza blundered back!

A 3-fold repetition claim that wasn't even close, gives Aronian an extra 2 minutes to torture Firouzja in this ending

Alireza survives, and in the end a 122-move draw was a fair result, as both players should have won... and lost!

An insane game with twist after twist after twist seeing Nepo not taking the sole lead but losing to Alireza Firouzja, who now has 6.5/8 today! Wesley So is the sole leader with one round to go today

I dont usually watch to much speed chess online but there can be remarkably creative efforts that I luckily catch. Firoujza - Radjabov is one of them. I was astounded to see at move 32 after the natural ....f5 by Black (who could argue?) Firoujza coming up with Qxc6 and then Bxb6 (obviously confusing Radjabov) Further along after the double exchange by the rooks on d7 Radjabov could have played Qxd7 and even I admit that Black must be winning tho I loved staring at the two knights and two pawns "compensation". Anyways Firoujza must have been having fun with the two knights in the resulting endgame as it all was played out to almost a hundred moves! All in one speed game! Great entertainment!

Rd 25 So - Firoujza (game above) Black resigns why? (It took me a minute but sometimes Im slow) Then it dawned on me. If Kh8 (what if) then the power of the pin and White can put all his pieces on the pinned knight on e5 - so for example Nd3 and Qe2 - what a pin! - paralyzing
