    RIP Yury Dokhoian (1964-2021)

    The Honoured coach of Russia was 56.
    On the 1st of July, the Honoured coach of Russia Yury Dokhoian (1964-2021) died in Moscow due to COVID-19.

    Grandmaster Yury Dokhoian was a prominent chess theoretician. For many years, he has been the 13th world chess champion Garry Kasparov's coach. After Kasparov quit professional chess, Dokhoian trained the leading Russian players Nadezhda and Tatiana Kosintseva. In 2006-2011, he was the Head coach of the Russian women's national chess team, which won the Olympic gold in 2010 in Khanty-Mansiysk.

    In 2011-2015, Yuri Dokhoian was heading the Russian national men's chess team. At the World Chess Olympiad, the Russian team shared 1-2 places with Armenia but became second due to the inferior tiebreak. Since 2015, he worked with many strong Russian chess players, including Sergey Karjakin and Andrey Esipenko.

    The Chess Federation of Russia expresses its deepest condolences to Yuri Dokhoian's relatives and friends.
