    D. Grimshaw -- F. Kunz, Kingston 1960. Canadian Interuniversity Team Championship. Grimshaw for University of Toronto, Kunz for McGill University. The board one game. Slav, Exchange, D10. Round three of three.
I don't the date, players' first names, ratings, or time controls.

White shows excellent technical skills in grinding out a strategic, positional win. He trades queens on the b-file early; this is a common ploy in this line. Then he moves to exploit the open a-file, and further weakens Black's queenside by exchanging bishop for knight on c6. He is then able to win a pawn at move 19. Black is chasing the game the entire time, and never gets enough counterplay to affect the outcome. In the resulting rook endgame, White keeps up his precision, and notches a well-deserved victory. This variation was debated in a key game, game #11, from the World Championship match held the next year, in 1961, with GM Mikhail Botvinnik winning from the White side against champion GM Mikhail Tal. Apparently GM Botvinnik unveiled some new analysis for the first time, which he had done some 15 years before; GM Tal, looking for an easy draw, didn't get it!
