  • IM norm for Mike Ivanov

A very strong performance by FM Mike Ivanov on Innsbruck tournament. I don't remember any other case there a 2200- player achieved a 2500+ performance. He finished 3rd in this big event while was 57th by initial rating. Congratulations!!

Personally, I don't understand how Mike was able to get his rating below 2200. It must be really hard for him.

With 2 other successful European tournaments, Mike's FIDE should be around 2350.

Congrats Mike. I also enjoyed the photos you shared on social media. Great hat you were wearing in the photos. Bring back those FIDE points to Canada.

            Congrats Mike!

Once Hart House re-opens, come on down and show us some games.
I can also think of a half-dozen guys who will be wanting to test out over some blitz games if this norm is for real. Colourful shirts and groovy hats don't impress us ;-)

I agree with Victor that it must have taken some effort for you to get your FIDE rating below 2200; but a 2506 TPR will set that right.

Below is one of Mike's wins. He plays his Qxd4 Sicilian, and goes into a long ending, all of which he plays very well.

                Thanks all!
Ian, I've learned my lesson and will only share the wealth in Canada upon hitting 2400. That's how I got below 2200 in the first place XD. Alex, I'm more scared of their trash-talk than Covid so will social distance my chess for now. Thanks John but that was hardly good technique on my part, should have kept the pawn on a5 for starters. A lot of opponents tried to over-press this weak 2195 player and tended to blunder here and there. The real test will be from now on.
