  • the agony of tournament chess

Lets face it -sometimes tournament chess is hard, even painful. Ive been following GM Hans Niemann's games as he is travelling and playing lots of tournament chess and the following game struck me as an example of how hard tournament chess is. https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2021...anik_Abhimanyu The opening is counterintuitive with finding the right moves on the white squares. White doesnt find the right plan (not sure what the right plan is) and his position gets worse and worse. A really tough loss.

On the other hand from the same round of the tournament: https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2021...a_Medina_Warda Whites moves flow dynamically thru the game especially after the knight sac on f5. White's pieces all work beautifully to a nice finish with Rf6.
