    Aw yes, Buchholz!
    .

    IM Levy Rozman of GothamChess...

    Jesus christ, Nepo vs. Nodirbek is the Playoffs, Magnus gets Bronze on tiebreaks, and Fabiano Caruana (tied for 1st place) gets NOTHING!
    @GothamChess

    GM Ben Finegold...

    A few years back, there was a 4 way tie for first (unless it was 5)… in the Sinquefield Cup. They had the same rules, but Carlsen, one of the top 2, said “everyone plays the playoff, or I don’t play!” After a meeting of the organizers, they agreed to nobody plays. Integrity

    Many FIDE tournaments have no play-off at all. Including candidates-2013, there Carlsen got the first place by better tie-break (against Kramnik).

    Actually, Buchholtz is likely the most logical and fair tie-break in swiss tournaments.

    Why? Just because the rules has been announced?

    And I assume you're referring to this ...

    "4.3.2.2. If there is a tie for the 1st place, the top two players in the rankings as per Article 4.3.2.1 shall play a play-off match to determine the World Rapid / World Blitz Champion."
