The name is Lorenzo Candian. But why does it show as a win for Short? Maybe a cell phone rang? Cheating? Let's see if he's paired for the next round.

**LATE UPDATE** - it appears that his phone rang, and he was forfeited.

Since Nigel was one of the first to forfeit because his phone rang, seems poetic justice that he would get his point back many years later.

Sorry that was my bad wit. Glad to see Nigel got the point. Hope it means good fortune for the year.

The tournament has interesting grandmasters playing. Ive been watching Hans Niemann games in particular.
Here is a nice queensack finish by Korobov: https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2022...Subramaniyam_H

Perhaps the bigger news is Nigel being able to play at all - it wasn't mentioned much in the chess news, but three weeks ago he was in hospital with covid. He's recovered sufficiently to be able to travel and push pieces around in-person.

https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2022...-Short_Nigel_D Nigel is back in form. He played an eye-popper of a game. (just look at the black pawns coming at the king!)
