Any idea how Canada chooses our official player for this?

The highest FIDE rating among interested active players.

How does a player go about declaring their interest?

          Hi Victor:

For an applicant to meet the condition of being "active", what is required?

Is it 20 FIDE/CFC rated games in the prior 2 years?

Usually, being active means playing at least 1 (one) game in last 12 months. It's slightly different now because of COVID.

I previously heard from a couple of masters that it takes at least a full tournament to recover from being inactive, that they start to play their best in the last round. The other route is what Frank Anderson did in the 1950s, play a match with a local master at tournament time controls. Nowdays, a player could train by playing a secret match with another grandmaster online.

Reminder. The deadline for official players is Apr 1. That means by this date I have to contact organizers with the name of the player and other details. Anyone who is interested to play as official player has to send me an email by Mar 30. Higher rated player would get this spot.

IM Shiyam Thavandiran will be the official player for Canada.

If anyone else is interested, please send me an email with tour information. From regulations:

Registrations are made exclusively through the National Federations by sending an email to erickhernandez2002@yahoo.com with copy to elsalvadorajedrez@gmail.com until Friday, April 22, 2022. The Federations must send the data of their official and unofficial participants: full name, identity document, international FIDE identification, email and telephone number. If other registration methods are established, they will be promptly communicated. Payments can be made in San Salvador until Sunday, May 1 at 20:00 pm at the Hotel Best Western Terraza. All participants must pay for the tournament registration the sum of US $ 200 (two hundred American dollars); this amount includes the statutory rate for the American Chess Confederation. This payment is mandatory. Each Federation will be jointly responsible for the payment of the registrations made and the costs caused by the non-presentation of the registered players.

Looks like an interesting event and probably the once-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Salvador.

They already have list of players:
